I can't tell you how important airplay is to a band, especially these days. I used to lose sleep trying to concoct ways to get my band exposure on FM radio. In that respect it was as useless then as it is now. Terrestrial radio is basically owned and operated by the recording industry and used as their massive advertising platform. The New Wave Cafe' in New Bedford, MA. It's the only kick ass local rock club in the Fall River/New Bedford area. It's got it's own built in clientele (many of which come out to see the bands) and is not affected by the Providence, RI club scene which sits about 20 miles or so off to the West.
